Debian 9 ”Stretch” operating system was released after 26 months of development
Debian is a Linux-based operating system with a reputation for stability and very slow updates. Debian 9 comes with Firefox web browser and Thunderbird email client. The big change in “Stretch” is MariaDB replacing MySQL as the default database, reflecting the open source community’s discomfort with the now-Oracle-owned MySQL.

Microsoft’s new Surface laptop can’t be repaired
iFixit, a site that teaches people how to fix many electrical device has given Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop a score of 0 in terms of repairability. The laptop can not be opened without causing massive damage and it is close to impossible to repair. “It literally can’t be opened without destroying it,” the repair company concludes.

Google details new steps for fighting terrorism content
Google will increase its use of technology to identify extremist and terrorism-related videos across its sites, which include YouTube, and will boost the number of people who screen for terrorism-related content. Google’s general counsel Kent Walker said “We are working with government, law enforcement and civil society groups to tackle the problem of violent extremism online. There should be no place for terrorist content on our services”.

BrideClick acquires Mode Media
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but BrideClick says it will relaunch under the name Glam Inc. The intellectual property acquired by BrideClick includes the domain names Glam.com, Mode.com, Foodie.com, Bliss.com, Brash.com and Tend.com, along with videos and other content and Mode’s property ad-serving technology.

A Museum of Failures opens in Sweeden to highlight a collection of of rejected products
Some of the products on display in this museum are: green Heinz ketchup, female-only pens, Colgate frozen lasagna and plastic bicycle. Samuel West, 43-year-old curator and clinical psychologist, had the idea of this museum. He said “I genuinely believe that as a society we underestimate failure. We are too obsessed with success”.
