Ubiquiti is accused of covering up a serious data breach
On January 11, the networking equipment and Internet of Things (IoT) devices provider began sending out emails to customers informing them of a recent security breach, but the event was apparently “massively downplayed” in an attempt to protect the firm’s stock value. A security professional at Ubiquiti who helped the company respond to the breach has claimed that cybercriminals gained administrative access to AWS Ubiquiti databases via credentials stored and stolen from an employee’s LastPass account, permitting them to obtain root admin access to AWS accounts, S3 buckets, application logs, and all databases, including those containing user credentials.

Microsoft earns contract worth $21.9 billion to make AR devices for the US Army
Microsoft will deliver to the U.S. Army more than 120,000 devices based on its HoloLens augmented reality headset. The contract has a five-year base and a five-year option to extend, and could be worth up to almost $21.9 billion over the full 10 years.

Discord launched Stage Channels for audio events
Discord launched a new feature for people to hold live audio events for audiences, similar to the app Clubhouse. The company said that Stage Channels is available now on all platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and the web.

Microsoft shut down Cortana app on Android and iOS
Microsoft stoped supporting the separate Cortana app for Android and iOS. Reminders and lists created by Cortana users will no longer be accessible through the mobile app, but they still can be used on the Windows 10 Cortana app. For the ppast years, the company has been transitioning Cortana from a personal digital assistant similar to Alexa and Google Nest to more of an embedded productivity aide tied into Microsoft 365.
