IBM announced the launch of four new data centers in California, London and Sydney
IBM announced that it’s opening four new IBM Cloud data centers across the globe, bringing its total data center footprint to 60 across 19 countries. Two of the new data centers are in London, giving IBM a total of five data centers in the UK. The third new data center now open is in San Jose, Calif., marking its third facility in the region and 23rd data center in the US. Lastly, IBM opened a new data center in Sydney, giving it four across Australia.

Google Play Music for iPhone now works with Apple’s CarPlay
Subscribers to Google Play Music can now access the on-demand service via Apple’s CarPlay, which bridges iPhone apps with in-dash interfaces in compatible vehicles. This is Google’s first app to offer CarPlay support. Play Music is a free download from the App Store. Some aspects of the service are free, but there is also a premium premium plan that starts at $9.99 per month.

Galaxy Note8
The phone will be launched on August 23 in New York City. The Note 8 will have a 6.3-inch display and a dedicated button for Samsung’s Bixby AI voice assistant.

The Moto Z2 Force will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It will come with a dual-12MP camera and on the front a 5MP camera with LED flash.

IBM and University of Alberta use AI to predict schizophrenia
IBM and University of Alberta researchers have published a study describing how the teams used AI and machine learning algorithms to predict instances of schizophrenia with 74 percent accuracy. The goal of this study was to extend this research with the University of Alberta, and connect IBM’s computer scientists with the university’s psychiatry and computer science department.

Google Duo adds video chats to call history
According to 9to5Google, the new version of Duo (14) integrates with the Android phone’s standard call log and will keep track of users Duo video calls once they give the app permission to do so. The update is available from the Google Play Store as well as from APKMirror.

An ingenious AI converts images of food into a list of ingredients
The team’s pic2recipe system uses neural networks to determine the recipe of a given food, in an attempt to gain “valuable insight into health habits and dietary preferences,” based on images of food from social media. pic2recipe was built using the Food-101 Data Set, a food-identifying algorithm built by Swiss scientists in 2014, using a database of 101,000 food images.
