Microsoft releases Adobe Flash Player security updates
Last week, Microsoft announced that they would be delaying February’s Patch Tuesday’s updates due to a “last minute issue.” But the company sent an email yesterday to high profile partners announcing today’s release of the Flash Player update for Edge and Internet Explorer on all supported operating systems: “Microsoft is planning to release security updates for Adobe Flash Player. These updates will be offered to the following operating systems: Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows Server 2016“.

Apple acquires iCloud.net domain and shuts down associated Asian social network
Apple reportedly paid $1.5 million but there is currently no word on the official price. Previously, this domain was associated with a small-scale social media platform called “iCloud Social Network,” which allowed users to share activities, pictures, music, videos, and other content. The social network is expected to go offline by the end of February and is currently giving users some time to remove their accounts.

Intel and Ericsson launch a new initiative to explore 5G applications
Intel and it’s partners from Ericsson, Honeywell, General Electric and the University of California Berkeley have formed the 5G Innovators Initiative to explore and test new ideas that could change how connected devices, business, cities, and media operate. At first, the 5GII will focus on the Industrial Internet of Things, including AR and VR applications for drones.

EU insists Microsoft must do better on Windows 10 privacy
European Union data protection authorities continue to have privacy-related concerns about Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system, despite the fact that Microsoft has modified the privacy settings for users of the OS after criticism and concerns were raised last year. Concerns have focused on the volume of data being gathered by default on Windows 10, and whether Microsoft obtains fully informed consent from users to collect and process their data.

Remix OS will allow your Android smartphone to work like a PC
Beijing-based Jide Technology has spend the last three years developing a dual-mode operating system based on Android, called Remix OS. It’s capable of switching between a Windows-like desktop environment and an interface environment optimized for phones, and is effectively a smartphone’s default operating system. The Remix OS for Mobile is scheduled for release in the second half of 2017.
