WhatsApp will add the option to make messages disappear by default after 90 days
Meta has announced that WhatsApp users will have the choice to make disappearing messages the default on all new chats. Additionally, users can now set messages to disappear after 24 hours or 90 days. WhatsApp notes that turning on disappearing messages by default won’t affect existing chats. In an individual chat, either users can turn disappearing messages on or off.

Microsoft seized websites used by state-backed Chinese hacking group
Microsoft announced that it had disrupted the cyberspying of a Chinese hacking group by seizing websites it used to gather intelligence from foreign ministries and human rights organisations in the US and 28 other countries. The company said it had been tracking the group since 2016 and had found that its “highly sophisticated” attacks intended to install unobtrusive malware that allowed for surveillance and data theft.

Google’s mail-in Pixel repair service reportedly compromised photos and accounts
Google’s Pixel smartphones being sent in for repairs are allegedly being broken into by unknown suspects to access private accounts and photos. Recent posts on social media and online message boards allege that phones being sent to a Google Pixel repair center in Texas are sometimes tampered with. Author Jane McGonigal said her internet accounts were compromised after she mailed her Pixel 5a to Google for service. The intruder accessed Google services, Dropbox and another email account.

Samsung merged mobile and consumer electronics divisions
Samsung Electronics has announced an internal reorganization of its departments with several changes to leadership. The company will have two new CEOs overseeing two divisions: Device Solutions and a new SET Division that includes mobile, TVs, and consumer electronics.
