Gigabyte suffered a ransomware attack in which it lost 112GB of data
PC component maker Gigabyte confirmed that during the attack it shut down IT infrastructure and that only a handful of servers were affected. According to Bleeping Computer, the group of hackers known as RansomEXX stole 112GB of sensitive internal data as well as info from a code repository. This includes Intel and AMD chip information as well as a debug document.

Google considered buying Epic Games, according to court documents
Acording to unsealed court filings, Google felt “threatened” by Epic’s plans to distribute Fortnite through other channels and they considered buying some or all of Epic to eliminate the competition. The filing also claims that “senior Google Play managers” made some overtures to Epic about establishing a “special deal” for Fortnite. Ultimately, Epic rejected Google’s offer, opting instead to offer the Android version of Fortnite through its own website and a distribution deal with Samsung.

Google is signing users out of Hangouts for iOS and Android as part of ‘switch to Chat’ notification
In late 2021, Hangouts will stop working and only Google Chat will be available. Google is now beginning that process of closing the Hangouts app and website for free personal accounts with a warning and sign out. The company also reminded users that their Hangouts conversations from the last year are already available in Chat, adding that older conversations will be available later on.

Authorities in China sued Tencent over the “youth mode” feature
When WeChat is used in “youth mode”, it restricts younger users’ access to functions like mobile payments as well as certain games. Prosecutors in Beijing are suing Tencent claiming that the feature is against laws protecting minors. The suit doesn’t specify how the app’s youth mode violates the law.
