Nvidia launches Metropolis video analytics platform for smart cities
The platform takes data captured by cameras deployed in throughout cities, and then runs it through AI to help cities monitor video instantaneously. Metropolis makes cities safer and smarter by applying deep learning to video streams for applications such as public safety, traffic management and resource optimization. More than 50 NVIDIA AI city partner companies are already providing products and applications that use deep learning on GPUs, many of which will be on display this week at the GPU Technology Conference.

Instagram received a major update adding photo sharing and an explore tab
Until now, users could only browse, like, follow, search and see notifications on Instagram mobile website. However, Instagram’s latest upgrade allows users to share photos and also use a light version of the Explorer tab. Instagram, which wants to be the photo app for the whole world, aims to bring more people on its platform and is now targeting areas where networks are slow and data is expensive.

Nubia Z17
The phone will have Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, and a dual camera setup. The nubia Z17 will be launched in two variants, a 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage variant, and an 8GB of RAM and 128GB model.

Amazon’s touchscreen Echo Show
The new model of the Echo will have a 7-inch touchscreen, it will display answers to verbal questions and feature internet-based telephone calls. It will be launched on June 28 with a price of $229.

Microsoft fixed a serious Windows Defender bug
Google Project Zero researchers Tavis Ormandy and Natalie Silvanovich said they discovered “the worst Windows remote code exec in recent memory”. In just two days, Microsoft’s Security Response Center and Windows Defender developers were able to come up with a fix that is now available via Windows Update for Windows 7, 8.1, RT and 10.

Waze now offers user-recorded voice option for navigation
Community-based traffic and navigation app Waze has received a new update. The update brings only one major feature: the Waze voice recorder. “In your Waze settings, tap Sound & voice to access Voice recorder, and get your kids and friends to record a favorite voice style,” the change-log for the update explains.
