A vulnerability on iOS 11 allows unauthorized access to photos on Apple iPhones
iDeviceHelp discovered an iOS bug that allows anyone who wants to gain access to a users photos and who also knows their phone number to easily bypass the security implementations on their device and send their photos to the attacker’s phone. This glitch seems to work on iOS 11.0.3 and on latest iOS 11.1 beta version. The hack is a fairly simple one, which requires the device being targeted to have Siri, Facetime Audio, and iMessage enabled, all three of which are on by default.

Qualcomm has achieved a 5G data connection using its Snapdragon X50 5G NR mobile modem chipset
Qualcomm said that it has successfully tested a 5G data connection on its Snapdragon X50 5G modem chipset for the first time. The chipset delivered a speed of 1.25 gigabits a second (Gbps) in the 28-GHz millimeter wave radio frequency band. The company said the demo will help accelerate the delivery of 5G services to consumers, which could still take years to materialize for most smartphone users.

Microsoft’s internal bug database was hacked in 2013
Hackers broke into Microsoft’s secret, internal bug-tracking database and stole information related to vulnerabilities that were exploited in later attacks. It was discovered in 2013 but never disclosed to the public, according to five former employees of the company who spoke with Reuters. Microsoft tightened up security after the breach, the former employees said, walling the database off from the corporate network and requiring two authentications for access.

Samsung unveiled Bixby 2.0
Samsung announced the second-generation version of its Bixby voice assistant, seven months after Bixby was first unveiled ahead of the launch of the Galaxy S8. According to Samsung, Bixby 2.0 is a “fundamental leap forward for digital assistants” and a “bold reinvention of the platform,” designed with the aim of making Bixby available on “any and all devices”.

Security researchers have discovered a new Adobe Flash vulnerability that has already been exploited by hackers to deploy the latest version of FinSpy malware on targets. FinSpy, also known as FinFisher, is a commercial malware that is typically sold to nation states and law enforcement agencies for surveillance purposes.

OnePlus promises to collect less data on its users in the future
OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, said that his firm will limit the data it collects from OxygenOS phones. Devices will stop sending phone numbers, WiFi info and network MAC addresses. And by the end of October, every OxygenOS device will have a prompt that asks users if they want to join the user experience program, with a setup process and terms of service that explain just what they’re sharing.
