A new security vulnerability affects almost all Bluetooth devices
Researchers have disclosed a security flaw in Bluetooth technology used in smartphones, tablets, laptops, and smart IoT devices. The vulnerability, which the team called Bluetooth Impersonation Attacks (BIAS), allows malicious parties to impersonate the address of a device that has previously paired with the target device.

PayPal announced a new feature in its mobile app that will let users make payments through QR codes
Sellers will be able to display their codes on their phones or on a printed piece of paper. The QR payments are being pitched as particularly useful for small businesses and casual sellers without card machines, or delivery services that would typically rely on cash.

Edison Mail iOS bug allowed unauthorized access to email accounts of other users
A vulnerability in Edison Mail for iOS showed messages intended for other people without requiring their sign-ins. The company attributed the flaw to an update that reached a “small percent” of the user base before reverting back.

Facebook will acquire Giphy for $400 million
Facebook has announced the acquisition of GIPHY, a popular online platform for creating and hosting animated GIFs and short videos. Giphy will become part of Instagram and its GIF library, will be further integrated into other Facebook-owned apps, the companies said.

Hacker arrested in Ukraine for selling 773 million stolen email addresses
The Ukrainian Secret Service (SSU) announced the arrest of a hacker known as Sanix, responsible for the country’s largest known theft of personal data, cryptocurrency wallets and other information. The stolen data belonged to people from different countries, including the European Union and the U.S., the agency claimed.

Facebook will pay a fine of US$6.5 million for making “false” privacy claims in Canada
An investigation of the social media network’s practices from 2012 to 2018 found that the company gave the impression that users could control who saw their personal information on Facebook and Messenger. But it allowed their data to be shared with third-party developers, the Competition Bureau said in a statement.
