Facebook is researching ways to analyze encrypted data such as WhatsApp messages
Facebook has hired a team of researchers for the purpose of analyzing WhatsApp encryption. The goal would be to have ways to insert ads into WhatsApp without actually decrypting the messages. This specific field of research is called “homomorphic encryption,” which is hoped to allow companies to read information from encrypted sets of data while also preserving privacy to protect against cybersecurity threats.

WhatsApp launched its ‘View Once’ disappearing photos and videos
Users can send ‘View Once’ photos and videos through the messaging app, and the recipient will only see it once. According to WaBetaInfo, the feature has been in beta for about a month.

UK is considering blocking Nvidia’s acquisition of Arm over security risks
The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) had sent its completed Phase 1 investigation report to the UK government on July 20. According to a government representative, the assessment submitted contains worrying implications for UK’s national security. This acquisition requires approval from authorities in the UK, EU, US and China, none of which have signed off yet.

Huawei will invest US$100 million in Asia-Pacific start-ups
Huawei plans to encourage start-ups in Asia-Pacific to use its cloud software as the company accelerates a move to increase revenue from software services after US sanctions crippled its smartphone business. The program will benefit companies with less than 10 years of existence, from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
