Google is testing a new desktop homepage that shows recommended content alongside the search box

The company might display news headlines, a weather forecast and sports scores. Google’s experimental interface looks similar to what Microsoft offers on its search engine Bing, which displays a long list of news stories and other information.

Microsoft officially closed the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard took a year and a half and it has gone through multiple regulatory approvals worldwide. The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is maintaining its opposition to the deal but has been unable to prevent Microsoft and Activision from completing it.

The European Commission sent a warning letter to Google and YouTube over disinformation and graphic content on the platform

Thierry Breton, the European Union’s internal market commissioner, reminded Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai of the EU’s content-moderation law, the Digital Services Act (DSA), including rules to quickly take down illegal content, like incitement to violence or propaganda for terrorist organizations.

Google seemed to have blocked benchmark apps on Pixel 8 and 8 Pro smartphones

Benchmark apps, which are used to assess the CPU and GPU performance of mobile devices, have been prevented from being installed on these Pixel models. The block was in place during the review embargo period for the Pixel 8 series phones ahead of their public release.
