European Union claims that X (formerly Twitter) is the biggest source of disinformation

European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova said that X has the highest ratio of disinformation among large social media platforms. An EU report analysed the ratio of disinformation, presenting for the first time the scale of fake news on social media across the EU.

Android 14 will add the ability to use the phone as a webcam

The latest Android 14 beta version has added a new option in the USB Preferences menu that can switch the phone into a webcam mode. The new webcam feature is currently supported on all of the Pixel devices capable of running the beta update except the Pixel Fold.

Amazon will invest up to $4 billion in Anthropic, the company that has built the chatbot Claude

The company will start with a $1.25 billion investment to gain a minority stake in Anthropic, with an option to increase the sum to a total of $4 billion. AWS will become Anthropic’s “primary cloud provider” to train and deploy its future foundation models.

The Google Podcasts app will be shut down in 2024

Google is discontinuing Google Podcasts and making YouTube Music its new centralized podcast app. In a blog post, the company stated that according to outside research, 23 percent of podcast listeners say YouTube is their most frequently used service, while just four percent use Google Podcasts.

OpenAI enabled ChatGPT to access the internet for answers to questions

The feature was removed from the service in July because it was being used to bypass paywalled content. The search capability will be handled through the Bing search engine in a partnership with Microsoft, which is a major investor in OpenAI.
