Thousands of Android devices have a dangerous malware preinstalled

Cybersecurity researchers at Human Security reported that at least 74,000 Android phones, tablets, and Connected TV boxes worldwide were shipped with the Triada malware. Triada was designed with the specific intent to implement financial frauds, typically hijacking the financial SMS transactions. The only way to remove the threat is to reinstall the OS.

Duolingo will launch math and music courses

A new music learning course available on Duolingo’s iOS app teaches musical notes and rhythm and even invites users to play basic songs on a virtual piano keyboard. Along with its new music course, users will also be able to access maths lessons, which are currently available through a separate app, Duolingo Math.

EU warned Elon Musk that ‘disinformation’ is spreading on X

EU Commissioner Thierry Breton sent Musk an “urgent” letter about the company’s handling of misinformation and its responsibilities under the Digital Services Act. The commissioner wrote that illegal content flagged by “relevant authorities” was still on the site, signifying that nothing had been done about it.

Apple has released iOS and iPadOS updates to patch a kernel zero-day vulnerability

The flaw, tracked as CVE-2023-42824, has been described as a local privilege escalation issue, which suggests it has been used as part of an exploit chain. Apple has now fixed the issue in iOS 16.7.1 and iPadOS 16.7.1, but it has yet to reveal who discovered and reported the flaw.

Over 17,000 WordPress sites have been hacked through a tagDiv plugin vulnerability

Hackers used the CVE-2023-3169 cross-site scripting (XSS) flaw in tagDiv Composer, a companion tool for tagDiv’s Newspaper and Newsmag themes for WordPress sites. Newspaper and Newsmag themes have more than 155,000 downloads.
