The European Parliament has given the final approval to the world’s first rules to govern artificial intelligence
The EU will ban practices that it believes will threaten citizens’ rights. “Biometric categorization systems based on sensitive characteristics” will be outlawed, as will the “untargeted scraping” of images of faces from CCTV footage and the web to create facial recognition databases. Low-risk services, such as spam filters, will face the lightest regulation.

Google DeepMind launched a new AI model called SIMA that can play video games its never seen before
SIMA, which stands for Scalable, Instructable, Multiworld Agent, is currently only in research. The researchers said SIMA’s ability to follow directions and complete tasks in video game worlds could lead to more useful AI agents that can operate in real-world environments.

OpenAI’s Sora generative AI video creator will be publicly available later this year
In February OpenAI unveiled Sora, an AI model that can create videos from text prompts or even a still image, and can also edit videos or extend them by filling in or adding frames. OpenAI’s chief technology officer, Mira Murati, stated that the company is working on adding audio to Sora’s clips.

Spotify announced it will add support for music videos
The feature is curently in beta testing in 11 countries, and has a limited catalog of videos. The music videos will be available in Spotify’s apps on iOS and Android, as well as the website and TV apps.
