The European Court of Human Rights has banned all legal efforts to break encryption in messaging apps
The court’s decision could potentially disrupt the European Commission’s proposed plans to require email and messaging service providers to create backdoors that would allow law enforcement to easily decrypt users’ messages.

Apple will reportedly receive a €500 million fine in EU after Spotify’s antitrust complaint
The Financial Times wrote that the European Commission will accuse Apple of abusing its power and will ban its “unfair trading conditions” in regard to its music service subscription policies. The fine is expected to be announced next month.

Apple removed iPhone web apps in the European Union
The company said that making web apps comply with the EU’s DMA involves a lot of work that’s not practical to undertake. Apple also mentioned security concerns, as DMA requires the company let developers “use alternative browser engines, other than WebKit, for dedicated browser apps”.

Microsoft, Meta and Google are among 20 companies that siggned an accord to combat disinformation through deepfakes
The agreement is intened to help prevent AI deepfakes in the 2024 US election. The companies involved don’t quite fully intend to ban deepfakes, but rather make labeling tools in AI technology that better clarifies when AI is being used in the media content.
