WhatsApp beta unveiled an enhanced calling interface

The latest update, version 2.23.17.16, simplifies adding contacts to ongoing group calls with a new button. Until now, users had to interrupt the call to establish a new one for additional participants. WhatsApp is also testing a scheduled group calling feature.

Google launched a new algorithm that makes FIDO encryption safe from quantum computers

FIDO keys are used for passwordless authentication and as a multi-factor authentication element. Google claims that the FIDO2 security key implementation is the first of its kind. The company hopes that this will become a new standard and supported by major web browsers with large user bases.

Google Messages will soon get satellite connectivity support

Google has begun adding the UI components required to initiate emergency SOS messages via satellite within its Messages app. With this feature, users will be able to send emergency SOS messages in situations where the cellular network is disrupted.

Meta will launch web version of Threads App next week

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, revealed that a Threads web version has been undergoing internal testing for “a week or two,” but “it needs some work” before it’s rolled out to the public. Threads isn’t currently available EU, due to data protection concerns.
