AI safety fund
Google, Microsoft, Anthropic and OpenAI create a $10 Million AI safety fund to conduct responsible AI research

The project’s goal is to ensure that any advancements in AI technology and research remain safe, secure, and under human control while identifying best practices and standards. It also aims to facilitate information-sharing among policymakers and the industry.

X is officially launching audio and video calls

The feature is only available to X Premium subscribers and is limited to the iOS app at the moment. However, the platform’s support page says it will soon arrive on Android, as well. Users don’t need an X Premium account to receive calls.

The new “About this image” tool for Google Search can provide context about images online and find AI fakes

Users can select an image and click on the three dots on the right-hand corner to access the tool. It will show when the image was originally published, if it’s been published since then and where it has been shown throughout the years.

Artists can now use a data poisoning tool to confuse image-generating AI models like DALL-E

The tool, called Nightshade, adds invisible changes to the pixels in the art so that if it’s scraped into an AI training set, it can cause the resulting model to break in chaotic and unpredictable ways. It is seen as a way to fight back against AI companies that use artists’ work to train their models without the creator’s permission.
