Project Music GenAI Control is a prototype that can generate audio from text prompts or a reference melody, and let users customize the results within the same workflow. Users can adjust things like tempo, intensity, repeating patterns and structure. Or they can take a track and extend it to an arbitrary length. Project Music GenAI Control may be made publicly available at some future date.

Alibaba’s new AI system ‘EMO’ can create realistic videos from photos
Alibaba’s Institute for Intelligent Computing launched EMO, an AI platform capable of animating still portrait photos into lifelike videos. To develop EMO, researchers trained the system using a dataset of over 250 hours of talking head videos curated from various sources such as speeches, films, TV shows, and singing performances. The system employs an AI technique known as a diffusion model.

GitHub is struggling to contain an attack generating millions of code repositories filled with malware
Security researchers have uncovered a massive attack featuring automated creation of malicious clones, that affects over 100,000 repositories and potentially millions more. The malicious clones, masquerading as legitimate repositories, are designed to steal sensitive data, including passwords, from developers’ devices.

Microsoft and OpenAI are sued by news organizations over copyright infringement
The news companies claim that OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is also used by Microsoft’s own chatbot Copilot, copies stories from their sites as part of their AI training. Microsoft and OpenAI also face lawsuits from multiple non-fiction authors accusing them of “massive and deliberate theft of copyrighted works”.
