The 15 leading universities and research institutions across the US and the UK will use AI to accelerate research breakthroughs and improve education. As part of NextGenAI, OpenAI will offer $50M in research grants, compute funding, and API access.

ChatGPT can now edit code directly within an integrated development environment, without the need to copy and past. According to OpenAI, IDE integration has been one of the most-requested features from macOS users since the company released its “works with app” framework, in November.

Meta and Internet Society will collaborate to expand internet access around the world
The new Connectivity Co-Funding Initiative aims to expand affordable and reliable internet access globally, mainly in regions underserved or overlooked by commercial companies. Internet Society and its subsidiary Internet Society Foundation have committed to a $30 million investment.

Mistral launched a new optical character recognition (OCR) API for fast document processing
Unlike most OCR APIs, Mistral OCR is a multimodal API, meaning that it can detect when there are illustrations and photos intertwined with blocks of text. Tests show Mistral OCR achieving 94.89% accuracy, compared to Google Document AI at 83.42% and Azure OCR at 89.52%.
