Meta launched Llama 3.1, its largest and most capable large language model yet
The 405B parameter model beats rivals at math, coding and multilingual tasks, the company claims. Unlike OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Anthropic that keep their AI models proprietary, Meta’s AI models are open source, which means that anyone can modify and use them for free without sharing personal data with Meta.

Adobe released new Generative AI features for Illustrator and Photoshop
The new features are designed to streamline workflows and introduce more powerful tools that leverage the capabilities of Adobe’s Firefly AI technology. One of the new features is Generative Shape Fill, which allows users to add detailed vectors to shapes via descriptive text prompts.

Microsoft said that 8.5M Windows devices were affected by CrowdStrike outage
A software update by global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, one of the largest operators in the industry, triggered systems problems that grounded flights and left customers without access to services such as healthcare or banking. The number given by Microsoft means it is probably the largest ever cyber-event, compared to all previous hacks and outages.

EU officials claim that Meta may be violating consumer laws with paid ‘ad-free’ plan
After an investigation the EU Commission ruled that Meta’s ad-free subscription plan fails to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), and has given the company the opportunity to respond before facing potential fines over the program. Also, the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network (CPC) has found, through a separate investigation, that Meta’s ad-free package does not clarify the process enough for users.
