A new Mandrake Android spyware version was discovered on Google Play
The new version of the Android spyware ‘Mandrake’ has been found in five applications downloaded 32,000 times from Google’s official app store. Those apps remained available for at least a year, while the last one, AirFS, which was the most successful in terms of popularity, was removed at the end of March 2024. Bitdefender first documented Mandrake in 2020.

Meta to pay $1.4 billion to settle a US lawsuit regarding facial recognition and photo tags
Meta agreed to pay $1.4 billion to settle a facial recognition data lawsuit by the state of Texas. The settlement, to be paid over five years, is the largest ever obtained from an action brought by a single US state. Texas Attorney General, who sued Meta in 2022, is continuing to press a similar lawsuit involving biometric data against Alphabet.

Leonardo offers an AI art generator, an AI video generator, and a transparent PNG generator for “true background-free visual elements”. With this acquisition, Canva will receive Leonardo’s more than 19 million registered users from a wide variety of fields.

Qualcomm will launch Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 processor for entry-level 5G smartphones
The entry-level chip aims to make 5G accessible to 2.8 billion smartphone users in select regions, including India and Latin America. Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 will be initially adopted by key OEMs, including Xiaomi and its other brands, with the first commercial device expected to be announced before the end of the year.
