Microsoft announced it is currently developing a way to store data on glass plates for 10,000 years

Microsoft Project Silica can pack 7 terabytes of data onto a palm-sized glass plate, equivalent to approximately 1.75 million songs or 3,500 movies. The goal of the Silica project is to write data into a glass and store it on a shelf until it is needed. Once written, the data inside the glass cannot be changed.

Microsoft officially closed the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard took a year and a half and it has gone through multiple regulatory approvals worldwide. The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is maintaining its opposition to the deal but has been unable to prevent Microsoft and Activision from completing it.

Hackers connected to the governments of Russia and China are allegedly using a WinRAR zero-day bug

Google’s Threat Analysis Group said that in recent weeks it has seen multiple government-backed groups exploiting CVE-2023-38831, a vulnerability from WinRAR. The bug, which has been patched, was initially exploited by criminal groups throughout early 2023.

Google is working on a Repair Mode option for phones with Android 14

This feature aims to establish a secure environment to protect user privacy during device repairs. Entering and exiting repair mode would need the lockscreen credentials.

WhatsApp added support for multiple accounts on the same phone

The new feature will save users from the trouble of logging out and logging in each time they want to use a different account, carrying two phones around, or accidentally messaging someone from the wrong account. Meta mentioned that users will still need a separate phone number and SIM card (or a phone that accepts multi-SIM) if they want to set up a second account.
