Microsoft launched Phi-3, its smallest AI model to run on smartphones

Phi-3 comes in three sizes; mini which is just 3.8 billion parameters, a 7 billion parameter small and the 14 billion parameter medium model. In comparison GPT-4 has more than a trillion parameters and the smallest Llama 3 model has 8 billion. Phi-3 is built on top of the learning from Phi-1, which focused on coding, and Phi-2 which was taught to reason.

The European Union has officially adopted a new right-to-repair law

Under the new policy, consumers will be able to claim free or reasonably priced repairs even after the warranty expires. The law still needs final approval from European Union member states.

Apple has blocked Spotify’s latest update in the European Union

The update aimed to include subscription pricing tiers and options to pay without using in-app purchas. This rejection by Apple is apparently linked to Spotify’s refusal to pay Apple a commission for purchases made from external links.

Meta has started licensing Horizon OS, the operating system for its Quest headset

The first companies to use Horizon OS in new headsets will be Asus and Lenovo. The Meta Quest store has been renamed Meta Horizon Store, to better align with the name of the OS.

Microsoft might hide the ‘Sign out’ button in Windows 11 behind a Microsoft 365 ad

In the recent Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.3500 the Sign out and Switch User buttons are missing. Users will have to access the Sign out button from a submenu showing app recommendations, hidden behind a three-dot menu.
