EU introduced labels for smartphones based on energy efficiency and ease of repair

The European Union has announced new mandatory labels for smartphones and tablets which will include information on energy efficiency, durability and repairability. In addition, the devices must meet new “ecodesign” requirements, including the availability of repair parts.

Spotify expands AI Playlist beta to 40+ new countries

The AI tool, currently in beta on Android and iOS devices, lets users create personalized playlists based on written prompts. This feature was originally launched in April 2024.

Anthropic launched a new program to study AI ‘model welfare’

The program will evaluate whether or not the advanced AI models may ever deserve some degree of moral consideration. It will also examine any signs for AI distress or ethical risk.

OpenAI will bring its Deep Research tool to free users with a ‘lightweight’ version

The new lightweight Deep Research is powered by a version of OpenAI’s o4-mini model. The standard version of this tool continues to run on OpenAI’s o3 model, which is restricted to paid tiers.
