OpenAI transformed ChatGPT into a powerful search engine
The upgrade lets users ask questions and get real-time information about news, sports and weather, features that until now required a separate search engine. OpenAI says ChatGPT Search uses a fine-tuned version of GPT-4o, post-trained “using novel synthetic data generation techniques”.

Google Maps added new AI features powered by Gemini
Users can now ask Maps to provide ideas for places to visit and things to do. Gemini can also provide a summary of reviews and users can also ask it if a place has outdoor seating or a quiet atmosphere.

Anthropic launched a Claude desktop app for Mac and Windows
The desktop apps are available both for free Claude users and users subscribed to Anthropic’s premium plans. Anthropic also released a dictation tool for Claude. However, this feature is currently not available in the new desktop apps.

Google confirmed that Android 16 is launching early and there will be a second release in 2025
