Facebook unveiled an AI-powered video recommendation algorithm to compete with TikTok
The company announced it is working on an AI model to “power our entire video ecosystem”. The new “model architecture” helped Facebook obtain “an 8% to 10% gain in Reels watch time”. Meta is now in “phase 3” of its re-architecture of the system, which involves trying to validate the technology and integrate it across multiple products.

A former Google engineer was arrested for allegedly stealing internal documents related to artificial intelligence
An ex-Google employee is accused of stealing more than 500 files containing artificial intelligence trade secrets from the company and using the information to benefit rival tech companies in China. If convicted he faces up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines on each count.

Meta explained how third-party messaging apps can be interoperable with WhatsApp and Messenger
The DMA requires that Meta “must be ready to enable interoperability with other services within three months of receiving a request”. To enable interoperability, makers of third-party messaging apps will need to sign an agreement with Meta and will likely have to adopt the same Signal protocol for end-to-end encryption.

Apple terminated Epic Games developer account calling it a ‘threat’ to the iOS ecosystem
Epic said that it had intended to use the Swedish account to launch an Epic Games Store on iOS in the EU, and this would have brought the Fortnite app back to the iPhone. The company claims that Apple terminating the developer account proves that “Apple has no intention of allowing true competition on iOS devices”.
